Invitation to the Mycored Africa Conference

The increasing importance of fungal toxins (mycotoxins) in food safety issues around the world has led the European Commission to fund an international consortium (known as MycoRed) of role players and researchers to address fundamental and practical aspects of mycotoxin reduction in the food and feed chains. As part of this initiative, the MycoRed Africa 2011 Conference will bring together a range of international experts to discuss mycotoxicological issues in general and mycotoxin reduction measures in particular. Participation of delegates from the African continent will be encouraged and actively promoted. MycoRed Africa 2011 will be held under the auspices of the International Society for Mycotoxicology and will have the theme “Mycotoxin reduction – Global solutions.

Delegates are offered all the right ingredients for a successful meeting. At the South-western tip of Africa where Table Mountain rises majestically from the sea lies Cape Town – The Mother City. This affectionate name is a reflection of its status as the oldest city in South Africa. The Cape Town International Conference Centre is the venue for the conference which is within easy reach of the fascinating Victoria and Alfred Waterfront with its wide range of entertainment, restaurants, coffee bars, pubs and shops.

Cape Town usually enjoys beautiful weather in April with mild temperatures. The city and the Western Cape have a lot to offer visitors at that time of the year– the Waterfront, Robben Island, beautiful world-renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Franschhoek are only a few of the attractions to this part of the world.

The academic programme aims to address a wide range of issues concerning mycotoxins, including their production by mycotoxigenic fungi, natural occurrence, their fate during processing from farm to plate, toxicology and regulatory control. Emphasis will be placed on the conference theme, “Mycotoxin reduction – Global solutions”, but prominence will be given to the problems in different African environments and their potential solutions.

Besides talks on numerous topics by invited speakers (local and international), there will be opportunity for presentation of original research work, either as oral or poster presentations. Delegates are encouraged to use this meeting as a forum to discuss their research findings.

So to enjoy a superb scientific programme in the most delightful of environments, simply make use of the online registration facility and abstract submission facility that will be available from 30 April 2010.

We’ve got the TABLE, the CLOTH and the CENTRE. You’re invited to be the DELEGATE in April 2011.

Warm regards
